Exploring the Strange Without Abandoning Critical Thinking
Welcome to your portal to the unknown, Connect Paranormal. Here, we explore the enigmatic worlds of faeries, ghosts, Bigfoot, UFOs, and other phenomena that defy our comprehension of reality.
People have always been telling stories about things that can’t be explained.
Old dwellings are haunted. The woods are full with strange things. Fairies guide visitors who stray from known paths. There are unknown things in the sky. Ancient ruins have inspired ideas of the greatest kind concerning the people who created them. Witnesses sometimes feel certain they have seen something that should not be there.
Connect Paranormal looks into these stories.
The site explores ghosts, Bigfoot and other cryptids, UFOs and alleged extraterrestrial encounters, fairies, folklore, mythology, witchcraft, legendary creatures, mysterious places, ancient civilizations, historical mysteries, and other topics that straddle the boundary between history, belief, experience, and the unexplained.
We are interested in the paranormal. But inquiry does not mean blind acceptance.
Open-Minded, but Skeptical
Connect Paranormal approaches extraordinary claims with both curiosity and skepticism.
That’s a compelling tale and something that needs to be looked into. It does not mean that it should be believed instantly.
Articles explore historical records, books, newspapers, scholarly study, folklore collections, eyewitness accounts, scientific literature and other sources whenever possible, diving deeper than repeated Internet assertions to help uncover where a narrative began and how it evolved.
Occasionally that means finding proof for a piece of a strange story. Often it’s a matter of discovering that something is exaggerated or misidentified, folklore passed off as fact, dubious evidence, or a story that has changed a lot in the telling.
Either result is fine with us.
The purpose of Connect Paranormal is neither to prove that all paranormal claims are legitimate or that nothing paranormal is conceivable. The trick is to ask better questions.
What supposedly happened?
Who originally reported it?
How reliable is the evidence?
How has the story changed over time?
Are there ordinary explanations?
What do believers propose?
What do skeptics say?
And after considering all of that, is there still something we cannot easily explain?
Sometimes the mystery survives the investigation. Sometimes the investigation becomes more interesting than the mystery.
Folklore Matters Even When Monsters Aren’t Real
Connect Paranormal also treats folklore, mythology, and legendary creatures as subjects worth studying in their own right.
One question is if Bigfoot is an undiscovered mammal. Another is why generations of people still report and tell stories of enormous human-like creatures in the forest.
The same is true of ghosts, faeries, werewolves, lake monsters, demons, UFOs, witches, vampires, and a thousand more supernatural traditions.
A legend is useful even though it cannot be scientifically proved. These stories can inform us about history, religion, terror, geography, cultural identification, popular culture, and how individuals try to make sense of strange occurrences.
That intersection of history, folklore, paranormal belief, and critical inquiry is at the heart of Connect Paranormal.
Historical Mysteries and Strange Places
Some of the mysteries in here are nothing to do with the supernatural.
Connect Paranormal also explores strange historical incidents, controversial stories, archeological riddles, legends surrounding historical personalities, ancient civilizations, unexplained constructions, conspiracy theories, and locations with unique tales to tell.
We are especially interested in tracing recent assertions back to ancient sources. One of these stories, repeated thousands of times on the web, may have originated as a newspaper article, a local legend, a misinterpreted historical occurrence, or perhaps a purposeful fake.
Discovering that origin might be an adventure in itself.
Who Is Behind Connect Paranormal?
Connect Paranormal is an independent project created and maintained by people with a longstanding interest in folklore, history, research, and the paranormal.
Jeff O’Connor, the site’s primary writer, is from Ohio. He holds an undergraduate degree in philosophy and master’s degrees in educational leadership and library science. He has studied folklore, unusual beliefs, historical mysteries, and paranormal subjects for much of his life.
That background influences the philosophy of the site: follow sources, question assumptions, consider competing explanations, and remain willing to say “we don’t know.”
There is nothing wrong with enjoying a mystery.
There is also nothing wrong with questioning it.
We think the best investigations do both.
A Note About Artificial Intelligence
Connect Paranormal is a website made and kept by humans. The human authors retain responsibility for the research, choice of sources, interpretation, and material presented.
Like many modern websites, we use digital and AI-assisted tools to help us with some supporting chores such as editing, summarization, search assistance, metadata, and some artwork. AI-generated or AI-assisted content does not qualify as evidence for paranormal claims.
A handful of experimental pages made with the help of extra AI have been noted.
The individual publishing the content is ultimately responsible for accuracy, no matter what tools are used.
Join the Investigation
You do not have to be a believer to enjoy Connect Paranormal.
You do not have to be a skeptic either.
You only need to be curious.
Read the stories. Examine the evidence. Follow the sources. Consider the skeptical explanations. Explore the folklore. Question our conclusions when you think we are wrong.
The unknown becomes much more interesting when we investigate it instead of simply believing or dismissing it.
Stay curious. Stay skeptical. Keep exploring.
