Behind this door lies one of the most haunted locations in the state of Illinois, on the campus of Western Illinois University. This is Dr. Michael Lorenzen. I’m the University Archivist and a professor at Western Illinois University.

Is there a ghost in the basement of Western Illinois University’s Malpass Library? Today we’re going to take a look and find out. The cage has lots of information related to local history at Western Illinois University. It includes records from the university, the local community, and the greater region.

The public cannot access this locked location. Down here, the area is where the ghost is seen. It is described as a young woman who is caught at the corner of someone’s eye, and when you look at her fully, she disappears.

Other strange things occur down here on a regular basis. The temperature in certain areas is significantly lower than anticipated. There are also things that move around, seemingly on their own, with no explanation why.

They’re all the way across to another area when the place has been locked and no one is here. Occasionally when people are working in this cage, they hear noises that are not mechanical equipment but sound like somebody talking. And yet, when they look for them, they can’t find them anywhere.

Naturally, people often describe this voice as belonging to a young woman. Outside of the cage, down in other areas of basement storage, it is equally creepy. Again, it just goes on and on.

Although the public can request them, the local history artifacts and old government documents are no longer available without a request.
